b.e_cooling is the artist name of Brian Cooling, a singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada, who lives in England. His distinctive Canadian wit, honed during a life which stretches from  coffin-maker to school teacher,  provides a singular foundation for an experience of strong melodies and evocative lyrics which have an edge that is not easily forgotten….

Brian cut his musical teeth on The Beatles in the mid-Sixties and developed a keen interest in his parents’ music collections (classical, calypso, American folk, choral, and light jazz). After their divorce, his mother’s tastes grew to incorporate a strong love of blues and her wider exposure to the music of the late sixties and early seventies influenced him greatly (eg. early Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, etc). 

Brian has performed in front of audiences in Canada, Germany and the UK since first learning the guitar at the age of 15. From early days as a busker in London and Bristol, Brian has been invited to play at pubs, restaurants, parties and festivals  (most notably, Glastonbury Festival 2008). He was awarded Best Guitarist prize in the Mid-Somerset Battle of the Bands competition (2009) and, in the following year the band, b.e_cooling (with Woody Woodward and Andy Stuart), made it to the finals.
Brian has appeared on regional, digital and online radio including interviews on local BBC radio. Nowadays Brian performs at open mics and the occasional gig in his local area. 

b.e_cooling has (self-) released three  albums: Getting Warmer (2008), Initial Settings (2012) and Grounded (2017). A fourth album, “?”, is being released as a series of singles from 2022.
